At Business and Employment Southeast Tasmania (BEST), we know that successful employment outcomes are about more than simply filling job vacancies. They are about connecting the right local people with the right local businesses, creating positive outcomes for both employers and community members.

Recently, we were delighted to support local community member Kim to secure a position with Building Surveyors Tasmania in Bellerive, resulting in a rewarding new career opportunity.

When Kim first visited the BEST office, she wasn’t sure what to expect. Like many community members seeking employment, she was navigating a challenging job market. She felt uncertain about preparing a resume and cover letter and wanted support to ensure she was meeting the expectations of today’s employers.

Through personalised support from Career Coach Tara, Kim received assistance to update her resume, develop a professional cover letter, and explore suitable employment opportunities.

Reflecting on her experience, Kim said:

“I had no expectations walking into the BEST office; however, the process was amazing, so swift and easy, and I walked out feeling great about the whole service. Given I hadn’t really needed a resume in the past and not knowing what the standards are for resumes and cover letters these days, I was grateful for the support in not only the resume and cover letter but connecting me to a great employment opportunity.”

At the same time, BEST was working closely with Building Surveyors Tasmania to understand exactly what they were looking for in a new team member. By taking the time to listen to their needs, workplace culture and desired attributes, Tara was able to identify candidates who aligned strongly with the business, its values and the requirements of the role.

Building Surveyors Tasmania Director, Shane, said the recruitment process exceeded expectations.

“We will be recommending BEST to everyone. The process from the beginning was made so easy, and I felt like you listened to my needs as an employer. You understood what was going to make a candidate the ‘right fit’ for our team. The candidates provided to us were aligned with what we described, and Kim has worked out better than we expected. She is a great addition to the team and has felt like she has been a part of the team for years.”

For Business and Employment Southeast Tasmania, this outcome highlights the importance of building strong relationships with both local employers and those seeking employment within our community. By truly understanding the needs of each party, we can create meaningful employment connections that benefit individuals, businesses and the wider Southeast area.

Recent addition to the team, Programs Administrator Samantha, reflected on BEST’s commitment to customer service:

“Community members walk through our doors and are welcomed with a warm and genuine smile, without judgement. They meet with a Career Coach, like Tara, who takes the time to listen to their story. She sees not only their potential, but who they are as a person and what they are capable of contributing toa local business.

At BEST, we don’t just help people find jobs. We create connections to community by matching the right people with the right roles, in the right environments, where they can thrive.”

We are thrilled to see Kim flourishing in her new role and grateful to Building Surveyors Tasmania for partnering with us throughout the recruitment process.

Congratulations to Kim on this exciting new chapter. We wish both Kim and the team at Building Surveyors Tasmania every success for the future.
